故事根据约翰·盖2004年所著传记《真实的玛丽·斯图亚特》改编。讲述了玛丽·斯图尔特（西尔莎·罗南 饰）幼年时就被带到法国与亨利二世的长子弗朗西斯订婚。但弗朗西斯在继位一年后去世，玛丽·斯图尔特顶住压力拒绝再婚。她回到了苏格兰，想要重新获得自己的王冠，但是此时的苏格兰与英格兰都在伊丽莎白一世（玛格特·罗比 饰）的统治之下。玛丽·斯图尔特通过努力，拿回了王室地位，但这也对伊丽莎白一世的统治造成了威胁。。林晓自小天赋异禀，自立坚强。有三个世界级师父教授游泳，自小苦练，因为常年负重，不知道自己很强。内心一直想通过拿到冠军证明自己，为出身卑微的母亲争口气。。Based in 1934 in Duluth, Minn., during the Great Depression, “Girl From the North Country” centers on a group of wayward travelers as their lives intersect in a guesthouse.
